110-10 Interchange at Harbor and Santa Monica freeways.

This is a neat interchange from above; it evokes a whirlpool or, perhaps, entangled ocean currents.  Unfortunately it is more difficult to appreciate when being driven (in LA you are driven more than you drive) through its enigmatic bowels. So here we refer you to these overhead photographs borrowed from this site. Looking at the overpass structure itself, it seems more boxy and edgy compared to the newer ones. Long rectangles on round pillars somehow give the feel of Lincoln Log construction, ad hoc and disjointed. Perhaps, as we said, this interchange is best viewed from above.
