Another staple interchange on my weekly commute—this is a personal favorite
of Doug Goodman, a civil engineer friend. I love the long exit bridges, which
extend like spider legs over and around the 91. We took one of the on-ramps
(onto the 241) and now have to pay the $2.25 toll. We asked Louie (the toll
troll) if we could
turn around for free—he politely declined our inquiry. It’s all right
though, on overpass day we are willing to pay any price!
Josh: "Jaime, what did you think about 91-241 overpass?"
Jaime: "The concrete aspect of the overpass was unimpressive but
this was made up for by the greenery and scenery. Structurally, the overpass
is a bit of a dud (sorry Doug, we tried). We choose a great day to do this,
because California has had so much rain and it’s not very smoggy
either!"
Josh: "I have to admit, the length of the overpass is impressive.
Unfortunately we didn’t see the Southbound 91 to 241 onramp, which is really
a beautiful specimen. It arcs gently off the 91, curves to the right, and arcs
into a gentle "s" curve over and around the 91. I love it! We really
saw the less interesting of the two bridges."
Jaime: "I guess this points out how
simple and popularized my taste is when it comes to overpasses… I’m easily
impressed by the massive stacks and I have less of a refined appreciation for
the smooth, long, curving bullshit."
Josh: "Jaime, after all, this is overpass - appreciation -
generation - day! You’ll be a changed woman by the end of our little
excursion!"
Jaime: "Kiss me roadgeek!"
Josh: "Smoooooch!"
Unfortunately, we didn’t a picture of this interchange. No problem though—maybe
I’ll take one later. Unfortunate as well, we didn't get a picture of the
smooch. Again, maybe later.
