On the 5 North, driving through Anaheim This next destination really isn’t an interchange proper, but is a massive construction project on the 5 N going on right now in Anaheim, CA. If there is not to much traffic this is a lot of fun to drive. In preparing to create new lanes and bridges, the route seems to change almost weekly. I love driving this part of the 5 (again, only when there is no traffic) because I learn so much about how freeways are constructed every time I drive here!
The bridges, here, are beautiful. The designers have reevoked the arch—but in a subtle, refined (Jaime: "postmodern") sort of way. I think you can find bridges like this down in San Diego. The railing evokes the old "mission" or concrete arch style railing used between the 1920s and the late 1950s—but nevertheless it remains in line with the contemporary concrete barrier style.
Also check out the new sound barrier walls—classy! Jaime: "I bet they have a cell phone tower on the top of the Matterhorn." |
